In loving memory:

Tami Lyon
June 10, 1966 – May 15, 2021

On Saturday, May 15th, our CalBay team member, Tami Lyon, lost her battle with cancer. She fought hard for two years.

Not only was Tami a long time employee, she was a great friend to us. She was truly an essential part of our team. She kept us organized, on track, and most of all, laughing. Her infectious laugh will be missed.

She was one of the most positive and kind people I’ve known. Her thoughtfulness was one in a million. It is unimaginable that she is actually gone.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband (John), her mother and father (Joan & Mike), her brother, sister-in-law and nephew (John, Megan & Jack), and her beloved dogs (Rosie & Riley).

In loving memory:

John L. “Jack” Hillis
May 23, 1944 – May 29, 2019

Hillis Financial Services, founded by John L. (Jack) Hillis in 2001, was an independent, personal wealth planning firm focused on managing the “irreplaceable assets” of its clients, families and individuals, many of whom were small business owners.  As independent representatives of LPL Financial, the financial professionals at Hillis Financial Services provided objective fee-based advice and services including personal financial, retirement, education, tax and estate planning, long-term care, charitable giving as well as risk management. The firm was based in San Jose, California.

Jack had over 50 years of experience providing financial planning and asset management advice to individuals, corporate executives and business owners. He provided a deep understanding of the financial markets and a wealth of knowledge related to investment allocation, retirement planning, tax management minimization strategies and overall portfolio management. This invaluable experience enabled him to help his clients in working toward building a foundation for their future. Jack led a friendly, knowledgeable and client-focused team.  He was affiliated with the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley for over 25 years and enjoyed golf, travel, wine collecting and professional sports.

In order to provide a succession and continuity plan for his valued clients and dedicated team, Jack merged Hillis Financial Services with Michael D. Allard/CalBay Investments in June 2017.  At that time, he and Mike had already worked together collaboratively for several years and shared a nearly 40-year family friendship.

Until May of 2019, both Jack and Mike remained autonomous in the management of their individual businesses, yet continued to collaborate on investment strategy, case design, joint events, and prepared for the full integration of the two organizations.  However, it was with deep sorrow that we unexpectedly lost our dear friend, associate and mentor, Jack Hillis, on May 29, 2019.

For those of you who knew Jack personally and/or professionally, we express our deepest condolences. Jack wanted the best possible outcome for his clients and team. His partnership with CalBay Investments was by design and reflected his desire to carry on a high level of customized service and advice.

Mike and the CalBay Investments team will strive to provide each Hillis Financial client with the utmost care and diligence.  We are honored to have known and worked with Jack, welcome his team into our organization, and are proud to work with and support the clients of Hillis Financial Services.
